‘Russia determined to construct second unit of Bushehr nuclear power plant’

TEHRAN, Feb. 15 (MNA) – The Iranian ambassador to Russia, Mehdi Sanai, held a meeting with the deputy director of the Russian state-owned nuclear energy corporation in Moscow on Friday to discuss the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of nuclear energy.

Rusatom Deputy Director Nikolai Spassky stated that Russia supports Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, and the launch of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is important for the governments and people of both countries.

Russia completed the construction of the power plant, and its launch was an example of successful cooperation between the two countries, he added.

And hopefully, an agreement on the construction of the second unit of the power plant will be signed soon, he stated.

Spassky added that two factors are important in cooperation. The first is that the activity should be economically fruitful for both sides, and the second is that the cooperation must conform to international commitments and the national laws of the two countries, he noted.

Ambassador Sanai said that the Iranian and Russian presidents are determined to strengthen and expand bilateral political and economic cooperation, specifically in the field of peaceful nuclear activities.

He added that the construction of the second unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is on the agenda and negotiations will be held on the issue.
